Andy Starnes ist ein lebenslanger Student des Feuerwehrwesens und engagiert sich seit 1992 als Freiwilliger und seit 1998 als Berufsfeuerwehrmann bei der Feuerwehr. Er schreibt auf Feuerwehr-Websites zu den Themen Wärmebildtechnik, Brandverhalten, Führungsqualitäten, Verhaltensgesundheit und religiöse Andachten.
Er beschäftigt sich leidenschaftlich mit dem Brandverhalten und hilft anderen regelmäßig dabei, die komplexe Terminologie des modernen Brandverhaltens zu verstehen.

Er ist Vorstandsmitglied der gemeinnützigen Organisation 5-Alarm Task Force, die Gelder zur Unterstützung von Ersthelfern sammelt, ist ein Master Craftsman bei Project Kill the Flashover und unterstützt zahlreiche Wohltätigkeitsorganisationen für Ersthelfer durch Insight Training.
Er hat in zahlreichen Podcasts mitgewirkt und auf zahlreichen Feuerwehrkonferenzen in aller Welt Kurse über taktische Wärmebildtechnik gehalten.
Seine Arbeit wurde in zahlreichen Feuerwehrpublikationen, Euro Firefighter 2 und anderen Lehrbüchern für die Feuerwehr veröffentlicht. Er hat Abteilungen in allen 50 Bundesstaaten und zahlreichen anderen Ländern geschult und/oder bei der Wärmebildausbildung unterstützt.

Der Lehrplan für Wärmebildtechnik von Insight Training wird in Kanada als integraler Bestandteil des Programms From Knowledge to Practice Fire Dynamics eingesetzt. Das Ausbilderteam von Insight Training LLC besteht aus Feuerwehrveteranen und ist vom Infrared Training Center für Thermografie der Stufe 1 zertifiziert.

Andy Starnes is a lifelong student of the fire service and has been involved with the fire service as a volunteer since 1992 and as a career firefighter since 1998. He is a fire service website contributor on the topics of thermal imaging, fire behavior, leadership, behavioral health, and faithbased devotions.
He is passionate about Fire Behavior and assisting in instructing others on understanding the complex terminology of modern fire behavior on a regular basis. He serves as a board member on the non-profit organization 5-Alarm Task Force which raises funds to support first responders, is a Master Craftsman with Project Kill the Flashover, and supports numerous first responder charities through Insight Training.
He has been featured on numerous podcasts and presented tactical thermal imaging courses at numerous fire service conferences across the globe.
His work has been featured in numerous fire service publications, Euro Firefighter 2, and other fire service text books. He has trained and/or assisted departments with Thermal Imaging Training in all 50 states and numerous other countries.

Insight Training’s Thermal Imaging Curriculum is in use in Canada as an integral part of their From Knowledge to Practice Fire Dynamics Program. Insight Training LLC instructor cadre are fire service veterans and are Level 1 Thermography Industrial Certified from Infrared Training Center.
Insight Training developed the first collegiate based Thermography certification in partnership with Western Kentucky University and Kentucky Thermal Institute. Andy currently serves as a Battalion Chief in a large career department in NC, is Level II Thermography Certified and provides training internationally. He consults manufacturers and assists with product development.
Andy Starnes was inducted into the Hall of Legends, Legacies, and Leaders by the National Fire Heritage Center at FDIC 2023.
